Moon Musings

The Moon. That luminescent beauty that rises above us routinely in the night sky. Evolving each evening from her grandiose and brightest splendor to retreating silently back into her inner realm, to be with her shadowy, hidden, mysterious, potency. Magically she blooms, ever so poetically, back to her radiant self. All the while in a rhythmic, harmonic dance between the Earth and the Sun.

The cycles of the Moon. The cycles of human life.

The Moon is energetic; it has a pulse, a frequency, it’s harmonic, moody, whimsical, potent, tribal, luminescent.
She is the body, mind, and soul. The Moon matters!

When we talk about the body, mind, and spirit, astrologers will look to the Moon in your birth chart to get a feel for your emotional disposition. The Moon is known to be the “heart and soul” of our experience. She is the source of the laws that govern our inner and outer realities. Her placement in your chart tells a lot about your “reigning needs''. Survival is not possible when our needs are not met.

Her movement around the earth every month impacts each of us in different ways. When we consciously work with her energies, we can become more aware of our own personal journey and navigate our experience with clearer intentions.

The Moon is the fastest moving planet in our solar system. It takes approximately 28 days for the Moon to orbit the earth. It moves through each astrological sign approximately every 1.5 days. We have a Lunar birthday every month! That means She cycles back to the exact spot at the time of your birth each month. The Sun in comparison, as you know, takes 365 days. During this cycle, we experience a New and Full Moon - along with Quarter Moons, Waxing, and Waning.

Our ancient ancestors planned their lives around this cycle; farmers, philosophers, queens and kings, religions, governing bodies, etc. Nature and animals all respond to the cycles of the moon. She is our cosmic nurturer. She reminds us to tend to our daily life.

A New Moon occurs when the Sun, Moon, and Earth come into a straight alignment, with the Moon in the center - creating, from Earth's perspective, a Dark Moon.  Full Moons occur when the Sun and the Moon are on opposite sides of the Earth, again in a straight line. When the Moon is in its dark phase it’s a time for reflection, an innate need to go inward, to renew intentions, to plant seeds of creation towards new goals and aspirations. This is a fertile phase that begins a new cycle of growth.

She peaks to her brightest, two weeks after the darkest phase. This is a time to review intentions and assess if the seeds planted have begun to grow. Is it a time to celebrate wins or face mistakes and challenges that arise? As the luminescent Moon wanes towards the Dark Moon we find ourselves where we started but with a new perspective, maybe clearer than before. Is this working? Was there growth? Are my intentions taking root? The cycle continues. It's poetic!

Creating rituals around this process can shed light on deeper parts of ourselves that are seeking transformation. Rituals along with the Moons phases can also support goals and aspirations that are actively trying to manifest.

A ritual can be as simple as sitting down and journaling. Write down the negative belief that is present and blocking you. Observe this belief, be curious - this is important. Do not identify with or cling to it. Where did this belief come from?
Let it go. Plant it into the Earth. She renews and regenerates. Focus on the belief that is in alignment with the intention you are creating. Plant this belief into your consciousness. Create a mantra that can help you hold this intention in present time. Use present tense language, as it is already done, believe it in your heart. Use the Moon to help you!

Remember, the Moon is our heart and soul, it governs our inner and outer realms. How we feel internally has a profound impact on how we create externally. Take mindful observation of your thoughts and beliefs. Is it true? Where did this originate? Is this belief supporting me?

Thoughts and beliefs manifest in the eternal - positive and negative.

February 2022 Moon energies.

We had a potent New Moon Monday, January 31.  Because February is a short month, we won’t see a New Moon in February. The next New Moon will be on March 2. This New Moon was in the sign of Aquarius and in a conjunction with Saturn, square Uranus. The Aquarius New Moon intention is to create and innovate, dream big, initiate creative projects, and commit long-range vision. BUT, remember to cross t’s, dot i’s, and look mindfully at intentions with practical awareness. Saturn asks us to be mature, diligent, and question our readiness. The Aquarian and Uranian energy is asking us to think big, innovate, and seek freedom! This is a tug of war between old and new, which reflects upon the 2021 energies when Saturn and Uranus were in a tight square (February 2021, June 2021, and December 2021). This has been playing out on the world stage, as well as in our personal lives - lasts through the end of 2022. Old vs. New. Tradition vs. Innovation. Restriction vs. Freedom. Review 2021 to consider what you have accomplished (yay!) and where you still need to refine (facts, truth) - how does that relate to now?

The Full Moon is on February 16, in the sign of Leo. The sign the Moon is in and the planets she is communicating with help us feel her significance. If you did the work January transits presented, you most likely addressed some challenging personal and relational blocks. This Full Moon in Leo is asking you to acknowledge your wins, celebrate, flirt, play, and create. There is a continual need to be original and express yourself in new ways and be recognized for it. Use your voice. Sing out loud. This is all fantastic…yet, the Moon will get into a quick conversation with Pluto as it reaches its most luminescent point, opposing the sun. Pluto rules the underworld, he insists on revealing the dark and egoic parts of our nature. What needs to be seen in order to be transformed? Pluto will let you know. Pay attention to what is being shown to you during this Full Moon and be ok if it isn’t pleasant. What comes up, how you deal with it, will have a profound impact on what you are working towards.

This month is going to teach us to dream big, face our limitations with curiosity, and stay grounded in our actions. Mark these dates on the calendar and set aside time to reflect, plan, and fine-tune. Tune in the days leading up to her phases and a few days after.

Use the Moon as a guide to help you become more intentional and self-aware. Her energies impact our consciousness on a daily, hourly basis.
